General Life Update

Hello all,

A general life update seems to be in order. And what better way to do it then with colon separated sections.
Python anyone?

Holidays:
    LAN party:
Some guy had 8Tb worth of games and movies. Needless to say I have a lot of new games.

    Work:
So much work. Lots of money for me though.
#This isn't me, it was the result of Google searching 'dollar dollar bills yo'.

Back at University:
    Marks:
        I got a B+, 2 B's and a B-. Solid B average student.

    This semester:
Using C and C++, also doing http and web servers, so expect something awesome this semester.
        Maybe a new website?
        Or a multiplayer game?

    Project:
One of our projects involves creating motion capture technology etc. That will be awesome.

Games:
    #The most important section.
    Starcraft II:
The ladder is now locked. Waiting on the next season.
        I still suck. Bronze league.
Watch this video. If you only ever watch one SC2 video, this should be it.

    Fire Emblem - Sacred Stones:
Friend gave this to me yesterday. It's a GameBoy game.
        SO GOOD!
        Play that shit.

    New game:
Obviously I have left Tanks for too long now.
Going to make a new game with the help of someone who has the interest.
#Foo, if you have an idea and the time let me know, comment.
Looking to maybe do something similar to Fire Emblem, and Final Fantasy Tactics.

Thats about it. Will keep you posted on interesting finding etc. Hopefully I get something useful out of this semester.

Cheers,
Milk

Blog Walkers Unite!

Hello again everyone,

Today is a very short entry. You may or may not have noticed I have added a Cbox to my blog. This little thing is quite awesome for finding blogs with similar interests as you.

Basically, all it is, is a message board. Though it allows you to link your blog to the message you leave. I've seen a lot of people leave a message on the Cbox and then click on someone else who has posted on it, then go to their Cbox and repeat.

You can see I have already have two fellow bloggers post on here.
Links of the special people:
http://toksplay.blogspot.com/ - Kal here has some awesome finds. Check it.
http://www.blogobo.com/most-rated/0/1/ - Random person. Yay!

Pretty cool, and very easy to use. Get your own Cbox here.

Also I need to post an update about my new laptop that I mentioned all the way back here. And a picture of my battle station. That should happen tomorrow. On the floor in the lounge...

Cheers,
Milk

CAPS versus lowercase

In my Human Computer Interaction course we learnt something I thought was pretty cool.

THIS SENTENCE WILL TAKE YOU A LOT LONGER TO READ THEN

one is that entirely lower case, with the same word count.

Interesting ay?
So you will have entirely upper case to either grab attention and make people thing about what they are reading or to make people get annoyed and not read any of it.
Now have a think about where things are entirely upper case and entirely lower case.

Do you ever read these? Me neither.

They don't want you knowing what is in your food.

Those are the most noticable ones.
I also laughed at this.

Oh and am getting computer today hopefully. Will post update when I get it running.

Cheers,
Milk

C Four, miGame, Part 5

So I was getting a bit frustrated at this AI, I made that I could beat every time... Had a look online at the solution Wikipedia was talking about. This. Shat my pants looking at the amount of information this things goes through. Some guy actually spend 40,000 hours calculating all the possible positions on the board and creating a txt file that holds all these and the transitions between them.

This is tl;dr.

4,531,985,219,092 different possible combinations of moves. That's quite a lot.

So this project seems to be a bit beyond what I was looking to do... I have a pretty average working AI now though. Wont release it just yet though. [Stop timer 201105061934]. Might work on this again later.

Random unrelated image:

I got a job making a website, which is great for University as I need work hours to graduate, but terrible for the guy who hired me because I have NO experience in html or css or php. Should be fun. Will have a play with this blogs design as well. I do quite like it how it is though. We will see.

Will end up something like this:

Long Time No Nothing

Wow long time. So I've been a little busy with the random happenings that is life. All in all nothing exciting or worth mentioning. Uni is a bit of a bore. Little to no software development makes it very boring. And means I have no content for you guys. [Sadface]

miTanks is on hold again while uni is busy. Been playing a lot of age of empires 3 on my downtime. Good game.

Anyway, here are a couple random pictures I've saved onto the work computer.

Will post something tomorrow or the next day about M-Theory, String theory, as I have been watching heaps of videos about it at work. Some interesting concepts there.

Internet Game / General Update

So I've started back at University this week. It's pretty boring so far. Seems that a lot of the code writing stuff is going to happen later on. Which is gay. It means no exciting content for this blog for a wee while.

Also I have recently moved house, which means I can only get online at University, and so haven't been on the blog or anything exciting for a while. Should have internets by next week though.

Supposed to be learning about networking this semester so hopefully, I should have a nice network game to stick on here for you all. That would be awesome.

Something fun:
Has anyone tried to play QWOP? You are Qwop, our small nation's sole representative at the Olympic Games. Ideally you will run 100m but our training program was under-funded. Remember, it's not about whether you win or lose.

Basically you have four buttons, Q, W, O, and P, with which you control the runners thighs and calves to make him run 100m. Sounds easy right? Shit no!

Woo! Straight away instead of running, I decide to do a backflip... Not good. After a decent amount of gameplay my record is 5.5m. Good job Qwop.

Awesome. Simply awesome. I would like to think my mum, for the cake, my brother and cousin for the story, myself for the epic content, all my followers for keeping me here, and all the little people I squashed to get where I am today.
[/speech]

Here's a whole bunch of random images I enjoy. To celebrate. I will have some content related to the blog later on. I hope. When I get around to it... I'll do it tonight. I promise.

miTanks, Part 6

A little more progress. Moved the ground builder into the Ground enum so that each type of ground has it's own way to build the terrain. Implemented a Sand random ground generator and a Rock random ground generator. Guess which one is which.

You can see the code behind building these is only a few lines each. Writing the rock one took less then 10 mins. The sand one was just over an hour.

The sand one still has some issues. I haven't quite got the constraints for the range, period and shift of the wave. And then applying some additional scaling so that it doesn't fall off the bottom of the game.

Haven't done much else really. Will look at adding a straight shot weapon that moves through the floor. This is probably going to be alot more enjoyable then the game to work. To be honest there isn't that much else to do to get it playable.

There are a couple of steps I have when I create a game:
Working = It does what it should.
Playable = You can see it doing what it should.
Done/Fun = There is enough story/options/levels/bells and wistles that you will enjoy playing it.
Finished = It's actually done.

At the moment miTanks for PC is at a proof of concept stage. Which is some wierd combination of fun and playable, but not quite working. This usaully happens when I get bored of doing behind the scenes code and start making stuff that I can actually see. Like the ground generators.

Please read this:
I've made the sound support on this PC version. Still waiting some sound effects. If you go to Vocaroo and make me a sound, I will put it in my game, and your name in credits.
Just post the Vocaroo link in a reply below.
If you want a weapon just tell me what it should do, how to move and shoot. I'll put that in aswel. Credit will be made to you also.

See example comment below.
