Getting around SOPA

Firstly, I am not going to go into a huge thing about the bill and what it does and why it's bad. But the end note is that it is bad. The real pirates are the ones who know how to get around these preventative measures anyway. It's only creating an even larger gap between those who have the skills and those that don't.

I've taken the liberaty to list a bunch of IP addresses of popular file sharing sites. If I have missed any, you can easily look them up yourselves before the law come into effect here. Simply type it into your browser and you're there.

The IP address of www.thepiratebay.org is 194.71.107.15

The IP address of www.mininova.org is 80.94.76.5

The IP address of www.isohunt.com is 208.95.173.130

The IP address of www.4chan.org is 199.27.135.129

The IP address of www.youtube.com is 209.85.148.93

The IP address of www.blogger.com is 74.125.39.191
(Oh teh noes, my blog!)

The IP address of www.facebook.com is 69.171.224.11

Pulse of the Maggots

This is the year where hope fails you The test subjects runs the experiment
And the bastard you know, is the hero you hate
But cohesing is possible if we try
Theres no reason, theres no lesson
No time like the present, Tell me right now
What have you got to lose, what have you got to lose
Except your soul... who's with us?!

Saw these guys live when they came to Auckland.
Was epic!

The Plan, Phase One

The basic premise of Phase 1 is to better ourselves as individuals by educating ourselves on the system and ways to break free. Phase 1 can be broken down simply into two basic steps consisting of personal growth and spreading the message.

As previously stated, begin with your pursuit of knowledge. Learn all that you can about the system. Help others by sharing this information here in our community in the designated forum.

Spread the message. Share the videos and website through all different types of social media (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Myspace, Blogs, forums, etc...). Make your own videos directing others to our site and informing them of "The Plan". Share the message through music, art, graffiti, video, etc. Become the message.

Discover and share with others ways to break free from the system. Start small and increase this objective over time. This step and focus will continue with more emphasis in Phase 2.

Through all of this we are calling on the support of the more "digital-oriented" members of Anonymous for their support and assistance in spreading this movement.

Phase 2 will commence in November 2011. Once initiated, all steps from Phase 1 will continue, some will escalate and more focus will be added to the movement. When the time comes for Phase 3 we will be ready for a much more head-on approach to tackling the system.

Spread the word.
Sorry I was slow on the update. Had exam...

Human Computer Interaction Exam

Hi all,

tl;dr: That's Ok. This post is more for myself then you guys. Just watch the video, I bet you get it wrong. Silly noobs. Foo, I have used you as my reasoning examples, for lulz. See way below.

Today is the day I am sitting my Human Computer Interaction exam. I'm such a bullshit topic really. Talks about how people interact with a computer. Though it is quite useful for design purposes, most of the thing they teach are ridiculous.

I'm putting these here to show to myself I haven't forgot the random ass acronyms we came up with the remember everything.

Nielson's Heuristics: VMUCERFAHH: These are the things that every website should have, for ease of use.
Visibility of system status
Match between the system and the real world
User control and freedom
Error prevention
Recognition over recall
Flexibility and efficiency
Aesthetics
Help and documentation
(H something that means)Error recovery
NOTE: My blog fits all of these requirements :D

Gestalt's Principles of Perception: CAPS 3123: The way humans perceive things.
(Good) Continuity
Closure
Common Fate
Area
Proximity
Pragnanz
Similarity
Symmetry
Surroundedness

Usability Testing: MESELF: What we test when we are testing usability of a website.
Memorability
Efficiency
Subjective satisfaction
Error frequency and severity
Learning
Fit for use

Principles of Aesthetics: PUBE PCI: Three things that relate to aesthetics on a computer.
(P is for principle of aesthetics)
Unity
Balance
Emphasis
    -Placement
    -Contrast
    -Isolation

Principles of Interaction Design: FUSSness and SiMPiVity: Things that we want for good interaction design.
FUSSness
Effectiveness/Usefullness
    -Flexibility
    -Utility
    -Safety
    -Stability
SiMPiVity
Efficiency/Usability
    -Simplicity
    -Memorability
    -Predictability
    -Visibility

Other non acronym notes:
Colour
    -Hue - the colour
-Saturation - the amount of colour in the colour
    -Value - brightness
Monochromatic - one colour scale
Analogous - colours next to each other
Complimentary - opposite colours
Dissonant - clashing colours (disgusting)
Triadic - three colours where any two are dissonant (and it looks good some how)

Sound
Earcons - synthesised sounds.
Auditory icon - natural noises.

Gulfs and Distances
Gulf of Execution - hard to do what you want to do in a system.
Gulf of Evaulation - hard to see what a system does.
Semantic Distance - distance between what you want to do and what the system actually does.
Articulatory Distance - distance between what you think a system does and what it actually does.

Affordance - expectations from the look of a system - a door with a handle you expect to pull

Analysis Techniques
Brain storm - obvious - quick, easy - can go beyond problem space
Card sort - label cards and group card together - quick, easy, in problem space - your interpretation might be different from anothers
Persona - create a person on paper - easy, fast, give an idea of the users - may not be a good indicator of the systems users
Scenarios - create a scenario of what could happen - fast, shows potential system flaws, allows an ease of use study - may not be a good indicator of what the users are using the system for

Interaction Styles
Command Line - CLI
Menu Based - iPod
Form Fill-in - Sign up sheet
Question and Answer - Windows install wizard
Direct Manipulation - drag and drop
Metaphors - Desktop, trashcan
Web Navigation - web nagivation...
3D Environments - Games, decent games
Zoomable Interface - Google Maps
Natural Language - Car GPS talk to you thingys

Human
Hearing 20Hz - 15kHz
Touch - Haptics - Reaction time depends on stimuli
Fitt's Law - Time taken to click a button - a + b binarylog(D/S + 1)
Memory
-Sensory - moved to short with attention - visual = iconic - aural = echoic - haptic = tactile
-Short Term - moved to long with rehearsal - 7 +-2 chucks of information
-Long Term - little to no decay - overriden by interferance - uses:
    Semantic network - a tree

    Frame - data structure
Script - walkthrough guide of assuming what happens
    Procedural - condition and action

 Reasoning
-Deductive - if x then y - Foo wears shorts on Wednesday. It is Wedsnesday therefore Foo is wearing shorts.
-Inductive - hypothesis therefore conclusion (generalisation) - I have only seen pink pigs therefore all pigs are pink.
-Abductive - conclusion therefore hypothesis - Foo drives fast when drunk. I have seen Foo driving fast, therefore, Foo is drunk.

Errors
Slips - Knowing you should always be making probes.
Mistake - Intentionally stopping probe production to mass army

Standards and Patterns
Standards - cost money - ISO - you must follow
Patterns - free - guidelines

END:
Ok that's all I'm doing.
I hope you didn't actually read all of that.
If you are doing an HCI course this might come in handy.
Otherwise I will see you all tomorrow.
Phase One from this post should be happening today (15th).
Will report on that when the time comes.

cheers,
Milk

Hackers Unite

So, we have all heard about Anonymous; (in)famous for a number of hacks. Well, it seems like they are going to stage a revolution. See the Youtube channel, or the blog for more information. Looks like this is going to be big.

For those of you with any coding knowledge, go the EnigmaGroup. Test and train your skills. Become the best you can be. Keep information free. Keep in contact. Keep life interesting. Hack the planet.

If you haven't already, watch Hackers. Above is wallpaper.

When you register, don't forget that Milk referred you. The site has various training missions that simulate hacks. All you get is the site/page to hack and a description of the mission. That's it. The rest you need to figure out on your own.

Protips - Chrome does some weird things when it loads a page that makes the javascript console not get elements from the web document properly. Use Firefox and get Firebug. Linux is also pro, but don't bother unless you are getting serious.

I will be posting some information regarding the missions on EnigmaGroup. Don't just go to the forum to find the answers, they aren't there anyway. You need to use the internet. Find the answers. Coding is 10% knowledge and 90% Google.

tl;dr - Safe site that hosts hacking tests and missions for beginners to experts. Now, you want to read it all, huh?
